Reba Baker, In Memoriam

On the evening of February 23, 2013, Reba Baker passed quietly in her sleep at age 95.

Since founding the B.R. Baker Memorial Lecture and Student Fellowship in 1975, the memory of B.R. Baker has been actively kept alive by his devoted wife, Reba Baker.   Mother of Shari, Bonnie and Reenie, grandmother of Jeanne and Debbie, great grandmother of Win and Holt, and surrogate mother to thousands of foreign students whom she taught at UCSB from 1975 until her recent illness, her most precious connection was as wife and partner to her husband, Professor B.R. Baker, who passed away in 1971

She has requested no funeral or public ceremony and that the family be allowed to mourn and remember her privately and in peace.  The family requests that people send their “Reba Baker stories”,of which there are many, to http://reba.baker.muchloved.com/. Each story is very precious.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the annual B.R. Baker Memorial Lecture and Student Fellowship.  The lecture series honors Dr Baker’s research in medicinal chemistry and recognizes graduate students currently involved in this research. The series is now in its 39thyear.

Donations may be made online at https://www.giveucsb.com/chem.htmor mailed to the department at the address below.
